‘Mujhe Kyun Nikala’: Marwat asks Qaiser why he was expelled from PTI
Lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat was the centre of attention in the National Assembly on Friday, ironically for the opposition benches, as the speaker advised treasury benches to be careful in their appreciation.
Marwat was expelled from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Wednesday following his comments at the Swabi rally. But PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan was unaware of the development and Salman Akram Raja, who once took exception to the lawmaker’s comments, denied any involvement in the matter.
As expected, the PTI MNA was “saddened” and “disappointed” because of the development. He claimed that jailed party founder Imran Khan has “weak ears”.
When Marwat entered the House, lawmakers started thumping desks and chanting slogans in his favour. NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq quipped that treasury lawmakers’ comments might get the vocal lawmaker in trouble.
As one of the lawmakers completed his point, the PTI lawmaker, known for his vocal demeanour, addressed the House.
“Mr Speaker I want to say something. I want to Qaiser Sb, our senior, Mujhe Kyun Nikala [why I was removed].” In reaction, the PTI MNA remained silent.
In a light-hearted exchange, the NA speaker made a humorous comment, to which Marwat quipped, “I am in PTI; should I now say, like Nawaz Sharif, ‘Why was I removed?’” His point of order drew laughter from the assembly, with government members enjoying the banter while PTI members stayed muted.
Marwat further noted that in rallies, supporters chanted slogans in his favour, questioning, “Did I bring them here? The founder is told different things here.”
