Judge Nasir Javaid Rana, the Accountability Court judge who sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the £190 million case, has been transferred.

The Islamabad High Court Chief Justice, Amir Farooq, ordered the transfer, and a notification was issued by the Registrar of the Islamabad High Court.

Judge Rana, who presided over the case against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, has been moved from the Accountability Court to the position of District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad West.

He had sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years imprisonment and Bushra Bibi to 7 years on charges of corruption and abuse of power. The court also imposed fines of Rs1 million on Khan and Rs500,000 on Bibi.

The decision to sentence Imran Khan was handed down on January 17, after multiple adjournments. The transfer of Judge Rana follows Justice Azam Khan’s appointment to the Islamabad High Court, leaving the District and Sessions Judge West position vacant. Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry had been temporarily filling the role.
