Karachi-bound Shalimar Express derails near Shahdara Bridge
The Shalimar Express, en route from Lahore to Karachi, derailed near Shahdara on Friday, leading to significant disruptions in train services.
Three carriages of the train went off the tracks, prompting immediate response efforts from railway officials and staff who arrived at the scene to assist.
A railway spokesperson confirmed that the Shalimar Express had left Lahore at 7:30am. There were no reported casualties and all passengers in the affected carriages were safely evacuated.
In response to the incident, Railway CEO Aamir Ali Baloch has initiated an investigation into the derailment.
A relief train was dispatched from Lahore to clear the track, and the Karakoram Express travelling from Karachi to Lahore was halted at Sheikhupura Railway Station, rerouting to Lahore via Sangla Hill and Wazirabad.
All passengers from the derailed train were transported to Shahdara Railway Station, where they boarded a relief train to Lahore.
Another Shalimar Express from Lahore was set to take such passengers to Karachi.

Preliminary findings indicate that the train driver was responsible for the accident.
Footage obtained by Aaj News revealed that the train was travelling at an excessive speed, and according to the Divisional Superintendent of Railways, “the driver failed to apply the brakes during the incident.”
