Government denies rejecting judicial commission, accuses PTI of derailing talks
Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a member of the government’s negotiating committee, has denied claims that the government has rejected the formation of a judicial commission.
Speaking to the media, Siddiqui accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of disrespecting the National Assembly Speaker and the negotiating committee by unilaterally announcing the end of talks. He criticized the PTI for turning the entire negotiation process into a “spectacle,” questioning how long the government would remain a part of it.
Siddiqui clarified that the PTI has not formally informed the Speaker of its decision to end negotiations. Therefore, the Speaker has called a meeting of the negotiating committee on January 28th, as previously scheduled.
He reiterated the government’s willingness to continue talks, stating, “We have never said we won’t form a judicial commission. We are making serious efforts regarding negotiations.”
Siddiqui emphasized that the government has not ended the negotiations, but questioned with whom they should negotiate if the PTI has withdrawn. He expressed concern over the PTI’s abrupt departure from talks, suggesting that the party likely has a hidden agenda. He concluded by highlighting the need for patience and tolerance in negotiations.
