Equalising parliamentarians’ salaries, benefits with federal secretary proposed: sources

The monthly salary and benefits for members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and senators are proposed to be set at Rs519,000, parliamentary sources said.

The National Assembly speaker has forwarded the finance committee’s recommendations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A total of 67 members from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have also formally demanded an increase in salaries. Other parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, have joined in solidarity on the issue, according to sources.

After all deductions, a federal secretary’s salary and allowances amount to Rs519,000 per month Moreover, parliamentarians are expected to receive benefits equivalent to those of a federal secretary.

It is noteworthy that parliamentarians initially demanded a monthly salary of Rs1 million, a request that was rejected by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
