Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned and denounced remarks attributed to the United States ambassador to Israel, in which he reportedly described Israeli control over the entire Middle East as acceptable, the Saudi Gazette reported on Saturday.
The Kingdom expressed its categorical rejection of the irresponsible statements, saying they constitute a violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and diplomatic norms.
It said the remarks represent a serious precedent from a US official and show disregard for the longstanding relations between countries in the region and the United States.
The ministry said such an approach carries grave consequences and threatens international peace and security by antagonising countries and peoples of the region and undermining the foundations of the international order, which was established to prevent devastating wars and to uphold respect for state sovereignty and internationally recognised borders.
It added that the US Department of State should clarify its position regarding the remarks, which are rejected by peace-loving nations around the world.
According to the Saudi Gazette, the Kingdom reaffirmed its firm position rejecting any infringement on the sovereignty, borders and territorial integrity of states.
It stressed that the only path to a just and comprehensive peace is ending the occupation based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
