The next-generation affordable iPhone, the iPhone 17e, is widely expected to debut on March 4, as anticipation builds ahead of a “special experience” event by Apple, according to media reports
While the company has not confirmed its product lineup, industry leaks and the event’s timing suggest the iPhone 17e announcement is imminent. The previous iPhone 16e launched on February 28, 2025, pointing to a similar release window this year.
Reports indicate the iPhone 17e will closely resemble its predecessor, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a single rear camera. No major design overhaul is expected.
Earlier speculation suggested the device could adopt Dynamic Island. However, recent leaks indicate Apple is likely to retain the traditional notch, keeping the model visually distinct from higher-end iPhone 17 variants, Khaleej Times reported.
The iPhone 17e is expected to retain a 48-megapixel main camera with optical-quality 2x zoom and a 12-megapixel front camera. This mirrors the setup on the iPhone 16e.
Rumours of an upgraded 18MP selfie camera have faded, with sources now suggesting the feature may arrive in a future model. Analysts say the existing sensor should continue to deliver solid daylight performance and improved digital zoom.
The biggest changes are likely under the hood.
The device is expected to run on Apple’s upcoming A19 chip, offering faster everyday performance and improved AI processing compared with the A18 in the previous model.
Leaks also point to a possible upgrade from the C1 modem to the newer C1X modem, which could improve power efficiency and connectivity.
No major increase in battery capacity or wired charging speed is expected. However, the iPhone 17e may gain MagSafe wireless charging for the first time, expanding access to Apple’s ecosystem of magnetic accessories.
The iPhone 16e only supported standard wireless charging.
The iPhone 17e is expected to retain a starting price of $599 or £599, unchanged from its predecessor. It will continue Apple’s strategy of offering a lower-cost iPhone using selective hardware compromises.
Analysts say the model is likely to appeal to first-time buyers and budget-conscious users but offers limited incentives for current iPhone 16e owners to upgrade.
With official details still under wraps, attention is now focused on March 4, when Apple is expected to confirm the device’s specifications, pricing, and release schedule.
