Four suspected terrorists were killed and two security personnel were injured in an encounter with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Shah Latif Town area of Malir in Karachi in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to CTD authorities, the operation was carried out after receiving intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected militants inside a house in the area.
A CTD spokesperson said when security personnel cordoned off the locality, the suspects opened fire from inside the house, prompting retaliatory action by law enforcement officials.
The CTD identified three of the deceased as Jaleel, Niaz and Hamdan, while the identity is being ascertained.
During the exchange of fire, two CTD officials sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Following the operation, a bomb disposal squad was called to the scene, which conducted a thorough search of the house.
Authorities said improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were being prepared inside drums within the premises.
During the search, explosive materials, IEDs, detonators, detonating wires and circuits were recovered.
The bomb disposal squad defused all hazardous materials on site to prevent any potential damage.
The CTD said further investigations are underway to determine the network to which the group was linked and their possible targets.
Officials added that security in the area has been further tightened and evidence is being collected to proceed with legal action.
