US President Donald Trump on Monday sent his best wishes to the United States cricket team competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, currently being held in India.
In a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he had just learned that the Cricket World Cup was underway in India and expressed his support for the US side.
“Our team is very strong, and the entire nation stands with them,” Trump said.
The United States are placed in Group A of the tournament alongside hosts India, Pakistan, the Netherlands and Namibia.
In their first match of the tournament, the USA put the host India under severe pressure with a brilliant bowling display, and at one point, 6 Indian players were dismissed for just 77 runs.
However, Captain Suryakumar Yadav batted brilliantly for the Indian team, scoring an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls and taking his team to 161 for 9 in 20 overs.
In reply, the USA team was under pressure from the start of the match and lost three crucial wickets during the power play. Although the middle order tried to control the innings, the USA team failed to achieve the target, and India won the match by 29 runs.
The US team had drawn attention at the previous T20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan in a major upset. They won two of their four group matches in that tournament and advanced to the Super Eight stage for the first time, before losing to the West Indies, South Africa and England.
The United States will face Pakistan in their next group match on Tuesday in Colombo.
