PCB backs Bangladesh in dispute over T20 World Cup match venues

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed support for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in its request to move its ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches out of India due to security threats.

The PCB conveyed its position in a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, also copying members of the ICC Board, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo.

The ICC is scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday to address Bangladesh’s request to relocate its matches to Sri Lanka, co-hosts of the tournament.

While it is unclear whether the PCB’s letter prompted the meeting, insiders said it is unlikely to affect the ICC’s current stance, which favours maintaining the original schedule but allowing Bangladesh to play in Sri Lanka if necessary.

The BCB, with backing from the Bangladesh government, has repeatedly refused to send its team to India for the tournament’s group-stage fixtures.

The ICC and BCB have held multiple discussions, including a meeting in Dhaka last weekend, but neither side has shifted its position.

A final decision is expected on Wednesday, less than three weeks before the tournament begins.

Speculation has surrounded Pakistan’s possible role in resolving the impasse. Unverified reports suggested that the PCB could offer to host Bangladesh’s matches in Pakistan or even reconsider Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup, depending on how the situation unfolds.

The PCB, however, has not publicly commented on these reports.

As Wednesday’s ICC Board meeting approaches, the cricketing world awaits a resolution to the standoff between Bangladesh and the tournament hosts.
