A strike is being observed at Karachi’s city courts on Wednesday on the call of the Sindh Bar Council and Karachi Bar Association in protest against the police for registering an FIR against certain lawyers.
The FIR was registered against lawyers for allegedly assaulting a station house officer (SHO) after a case was registered against them and others for roughing up YouTuber Rajab Butt during a court appearance in Karachi.
Lawyers have also condemned the police’s alleged reluctance to file a counter FIR against YouTuber Rajab Butt.
Due to the strike, the work at courts has been disrupted, and police officers and personnel have been barred from entering the City Court premises.
The Karachi Bar Association has also convened an emergency meeting following the police’s refusal to register an FIR against Rajab Butt on behalf of lawyers.
The Sindh Bar Council condemned the police decision not to file an FIR against Rajab Butt and demanded that the Inspector General of Sindh register a separate FIR to address the matter.
Earlier, Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Nawaz Waraich stated that no police personnel would be allowed to enter the City Court on Wednesday.
He also demanded that an FIR be registered against YouTuber Rajab Butt regarding the ongoing case.
