President Asif Zardari signs armed forces amendments into law

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday approved amendments to the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy Acts, following their passage by the federal cabinet, National Assembly and Senate.

According to the Presidency, the president signed the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Pakistan Air Force (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Pakistan Navy (Amendment) Bill 2025.

With the president’s assent, all three bills have now become part of the country’s Constitution.

Under the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act 2025, a new position — Chief of the Defence Forces — has been introduced within the office of the Army Chief, while the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished from November 27, 2025.

The amendment further states that the tenure of the Commander, National Strategic Command, will be three years, with the provision for a three-year extension.

The federal cabinet, National Assembly and Senate had earlier approved the amendments to the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy Acts.
