Supreme Court unanimously approves amendments to SC Rules 2025

The Supreme Court of Pakistan, in a full court meeting chaired by Chief Justice Justice Yahya Afridi, unanimously approved amendments to the Supreme Court Rules 2025 and granted senior advocate status to Muhammad Munir Pracha.

According to an official statement, the amendments were made based on recommendations from a committee constituted under Order I, Rule 1(4) of the SC Rules 2025.

The committee, comprising Justices Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, reviewed the 1980 rules in detail, drafted the 2025 rules, and proposed changes to address procedural complexities.

The full court praised the committee members for their diligent and sincere work, describing their contributions as “significant and commendable.”

The amendments aim to enhance service delivery, streamline the judicial process, and provide affordable and speedy justice to the public.

Under Order IV, Rule 5 of the SC Rules 2025, Muhammad Munir Pracha was formally elevated to senior advocate status.

The Supreme Court announced that the SC Rules 2025 have now been officially updated and are ready for implementation.
