Egg prices in Karachi have surged close to chicken rates, with a dozen eggs now costing Rs400 while chicken meat sells for Rs 450 per kilogram.

The winter season and lower production have driven up egg prices by up to Rs25 per dozen, traders say.

In wholesale markets, smaller eggs are Rs282 per dozen, normal eggs Rs364, and two-yolked eggs Rs500.

The local desi eggs cost Rs500, while in Peshawar, the desi eggs reach Rs700 per dozen.

Vendors report price increases of up to Rs1,000 per crate due to supply shortages.

Residents said feeding eggs to children or sick family members has become difficult in the cold weather.

The winter spike has narrowed the price gap between eggs and chicken, surprising consumers and raising concerns about affordability.
