Netflix unveils animated ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ spinoff

Netflix has announced a new animated spinoff titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, which will explore what happened between the Mind Flayer’s defeat in season two and the Starcourt Mall events in season three.

The series, set to arrive next year, will not feature the original Stranger Things cast.

Instead, a new lineup of actors will voice the familiar characters. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will voice Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport plays Max, Luca Diaz is Mike, Ej (Elisha) Williams is Lucas, Braxton Quinney is Dustin, Ben Plessala takes on Will, and Brett Gipson voices Hopper.

Additional voice roles include Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

According to the official synopsis, the story returns viewers to Hawkins in the winter of 1985, where the group faces new monsters and uncovers a paranormal mystery threatening their town.

Eric Robles serves as showrunner, while Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producers alongside Hilary Leavitt and Shawn Levy.

In a teaser, the Duffer brothers said the project was inspired by the feel of 1980s cartoons. “With animation, there’s really no limit.

Eric and his team can go wild, and they have,” they shared.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is expected to premiere in 2026, though Netflix has not yet confirmed an exact release date.
