Prince William has just delivered a compelling message about sports and mental health as he starts his journey to Brazil.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account published images of William’s visit to Rio’s famed Maracanã Stadium.
In addition to the photo carousel and video clip, Prince William’s signature included a special message.
He said, “Football is more than just a game.”
The message further emphasises: “The beautiful game can do beautiful things, and community leaders are harnessing the power of sport to create safe and inclusive spaces.”
“Here, young people can build resilience, connect with others and access vital mental health support,” he continued.
Additionally, a statement on behalf of the Prince of Wales emphasised that football helps break down barriers and eliminate stigma around mental health.
“On and off the pitch, football is breaking down barriers, helping to destigmatise mental health and paving the way for life-changing conversations. At its best, soccer connects us to something bigger than the game: each other,“ he concluded.
The photo shows Prince William with Cafu, a former Brazilian professional soccer player known as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.
Pakistan also has a growing football culture, from Lyari to women’s football rising nationwide, making Prince William’s message especially relevant for young Pakistani players and fans.
