Three wanted extortionists arrested in Karachi after police shootout

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) conducted a joint operation in Karachi, arresting three most-wanted extortion suspects linked to the notorious Bahadur PMT gang, officials said on Saturday.

According to police, the raid was carried out in the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area, where the suspects opened fire upon seeing the law enforcers.

The police returned fire strategically and managed to arrest all three armed men, identified as Owais, Shahid, and Abu Bakar.

Police recovered illegal weapons and ammunition from their possession.

Initial interrogation revealed that the suspects used to collect extortion money from traders, conduct surveillance of business owners, and gather personal information about their families, which they passed on to the gang’s leader, Bahadur PMT.

The suspects also delivered threatening extortion letters to businessmen and were involved in aerial firing outside shops and offices to intimidate victims.

Police sources said the arrested men have prior criminal records, with multiple cases registered against them for extortion, illegal possession of arms, and firing on police.

Further interrogation is underway to trace other members of the gang.
