Iran Air begins Mashhad-Zahedan-Quetta flights

Iran Air launched its first-ever flight to Quetta on Wednesday night, marking a new chapter in air connectivity between Pakistan and Iran.

Flight 826, an Airbus A319 operating on the Mashhad-Zahedan-Quetta route, landed at Quetta International Airport to a water cannon salute and a warm welcome from aviation officials.

A ceremony was held at the State Lounge to mark the occasion. Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel attended as the chief guest, along with the Consul General of Iran, senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, and representatives from the diplomatic and business communities.

The event began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Iran.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Mandokhel described the new flight as “a significant milestone” in strengthening bilateral ties, trade, and cultural exchange between the two countries.

“This service will enhance people-to-people contact and open new avenues for tourism, pilgrimage, and commerce,” he said.

The Iranian consul general said the initiative reflected Tehran’s commitment to closer cooperation with Pakistan through enhanced transport and communication links.

According to officials, Iran Air will operate the service once a week, every Wednesday, arriving in Quetta at 9:30pm. The inaugural flight carried 30 passengers on arrival and 120 on departure, showing strong interest in the route.

A Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson said the new connection was “a proud moment for Quetta International Airport,” adding that the service would facilitate pilgrims, business travellers, and families on both sides of the border.

Officials said the new link would help boost regional connectivity and support cross-border cooperation in South and Central Asia.
