Government vehicles fined through Karachi’s e-challan system

Several vehicles belonging to key government departments have been fined under Karachi’s camera-based e-challan system for various traffic violations, with total fines amounting to Rs380,000.

According to official data, 35 government vehicles were flagged for offences including driving without a seat belt, tinted windows, signal violations, and mobile phone use while driving.

The e-challan list includes vehicles of the Federal Narcotics Control Department, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh Health and Agriculture departments, Registrar of the Sindh High Court, Sindh Ombudsman’s Office, University and Board Department, Nuclear Equipment Workshop, Food Department, Sui Southern Gas Company, Local Government Department, Land Utilisation Department, Education Department, and others.

One vehicle of the Federal Narcotics Control Department was fined for tinted windows, while the NAB, Health, and Agriculture departments faced fines for signal violations.

The Registrar of the Sindh High Court was fined for mobile phone use, and the Sindh Ombudsman’s Office, along with the University and Board Department, were fined for not wearing seat belts.

The highest number of violations, 30, were related to seat belt non-compliance, resulting in fines worth Rs310,000.

One fine of Rs25,000 was issued for tinted windows, three fines totalling Rs35,000 for signal jumping, and one fine of Rs10,000 for mobile phone use while driving.

Most violations were detected by cameras installed near Baloch Colony, Hasan Square, PIDC, Metropole, Rangers Headquarters, and Teen Talwar.
