Jennifer Lawrence reflects on early interviews: “I get why people found me annoying”

Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about her early years in Hollywood, and she’s not exactly proud of all of it.

Speaking to The New Yorker, the 35-year-old Hunger Games star admitted she can’t watch her old interviews today.“Oh, no,” Lawrence reacted when the interviewer mentioned revisiting her earlier press clips.

“So hyper. So embarrassing.”

She explained that her playful, self-mocking personality was genuine, but also a shield while dealing with sudden fame.

“It is, or it was, my real personality,” she said. “But it was also a defence mechanism to just be like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!

Lawrence shared that life in the spotlight during her twenties was overwhelming.

“I was young, living alone and being chased,” she recalled.

“I saw the shift in public opinion coming. I was working too much and frustrated with my relationship with the press.”

Looking back, she says she understands why some people grew tired of her. “I look at those interviews and that person is annoying,” she admitted.

“I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande’s SNL impression of me was spot-on.”

However, Lawrence noted the backlash became deeply personal.

“I felt rejected not for my movies or politics, but for my personality,” she said, reflecting on the period.
