Iran has offered to play a “brotherly role” in reducing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, amid growing unease along their shared border.

The offer was made during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where both sides discussed bilateral relations, regional peace, security cooperation, and the overall situation in the region.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s message of goodwill to President Pezeshkian and briefed him on the latest situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

President Pezeshkian expressed Iran’s willingness to mediate between Islamabad and Kabul, emphasising that Tehran attaches special importance to its ties with Pakistan and would never forget the support of its “brotherly nation”.

The Iranian president voiced satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations, saying that both countries have numerous opportunities to further enhance cooperation.

Naqvi reaffirmed that Iran and Pakistan are partners in promoting regional peace and stability, adding that mutual cooperation is essential for the region’s collective future.
