PML-N to stay out of AJK govt formation, says Farooq Haider

Former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Azad Jammu and Kashmir parliamentary leader Raja Farooq Haider has categorically announced that his party will not participate in any process of government formation in the region.

Raja Farooq Haider said the PML-N parliamentary party had already decided to sit on the opposition benches.

He reaffirmed that the party stood firmly by this decision, leaving no room for any change.

Meanwhile, political activities have intensified in Azad Kashmir over the formation of a new government.

According to sources, President Asif Ali Zardari contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by phone to take him into confidence over the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) decisions regarding government formation.

The sources added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tasked the PML-N’s AJK Affairs Committee with holding talks with the PPP.

The committee includes Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Amir Muqam.

Consultations between the committee and the PML-N leadership in Azad Kashmir are underway to reach a consensus on the party’s future course of action, the sources said.

Political analysts believe the PML-N remains committed to staying in opposition, while the PPP is in contact with other parties and independent lawmakers to form the next government.

Significant political developments are expected in Azad Kashmir in the coming days.
