NEPRA cuts K-Electric’s average tariff to Rs32.37 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has reduced K-Electric’s (KE) multi-year tariff (MYT) from Rs39.97 per unit to Rs32.37 per unit under review petitions for the fiscal years 2024 to 2030.

According to a KE spokesperson, the NEPRA’s decision will apply to the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, and supply operations. The regulator has maintained its previous stance regarding the right of claims.

The spokesperson added that some major changes introduced by NEPRA are unsustainable for the company and could have far-reaching effects on all stakeholders, especially consumers.

KE confirmed that it is reviewing the detailed decision and will explore all legal options to safeguard its rights and interests.

The decision is viewed as encouraging for consumers, as it is expected to reduce household and industrial electricity bills. However, K-Electric has indicated that legal challenges may continue.
