Maryam Nawaz directs timely completion of Lahore’s development projects

A special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday reviewed the progress on key development projects, including the Central Business District (CBD), Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) initiatives, and the Nawaz Sharif IT City.

Officials briefed the chief minister that the Nawaz Sharif IT City will host a campus of Imperial College London, with its foundation stone scheduled to be laid in November.

The campus will also include a state-of-the-art 300-bed hospital.

Maryam Nawaz set a target for the early completion of the RUDA Primary Dam on the Ravi River to safeguard Lahore from potential floods and directed that Phase 1 of the Ravi Urban Development Project be completed within two years.

The chief minister emphasised the need for the timely completion of development projects and instructed officials to present quarterly progress reports.

The briefing highlighted that the RUDA Dam would protect Lahore from Ravi River flooding and that Ravi City is planned to become Pakistan’s first fully green city.

The meeting was informed that Chinese and Turkish companies have shown interest in the Entertainment City project, which will feature an 80-seater flying theatre.

Additionally, Silicon City, University Block, and Film City have attracted interest from various institutions, the meeting was informed.

The meeting was informed that the construction of the IT Tower within the Nawaz Sharif IT City is already 78 per cent complete.

Officials reaffirmed that these projects aim to combine modern urban planning, sustainable infrastructure, and international educational standards for Lahore’s development.
