PM Shehbaz lauds Trump’s global peace efforts, renews call for Nobel Peace Prize

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday lauded the global peace efforts of US President Donald Trump, reiterating his call for awarding the American leader the Nobel Peace Prize for his pivotal role in promoting peace in the Middle East and South Asia.

Addressing the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Accord in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, the Prime Minister said the world was witnessing a historic moment following the tireless diplomatic efforts that led to peace in Gaza.

“After relentless efforts, we have succeeded in achieving peace in Gaza. Today is a momentous and historic day for the people of Gaza,” Shehbaz Sharif said.

“I would say this is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts,” PM Shehbaz said.

“Efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who had relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live in peace and prosperity,” he added.

The prime minister credited President Trump and his diplomatic team for preventing a potential large-scale conflict in South Asia, noting that their intervention had saved countless lives.

“Thanks to his leadership, peace was restored and millions of lives were saved,” the prime minister remarked.

The PM reiterated that Pakistan nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding, extraordinary contributions to first stop the war between India and Pakistan and then achieve a ceasefire, along with his very wonderful team.

“Again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize, because I genuinely fel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the peace prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia — saved millions of people, their livews — and today, achieving peace in Gaza [and] saving, millions of lvies in the middle east.”

Meetings with world leaders

Earlier, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, PM Shehbaz held important meetings with President Trump and several world leaders to discuss post-ceasefire developments in Gaza, regional stability, and humanitarian assistance.

President Trump met the Pakistani premier at length, engaging in a conversation that observers described as “warm and cordial.”

The two leaders shook hands and exchanged views for nearly a minute, reflecting the spirit of renewed diplomatic engagement.

The prime minister also held bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

He also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

During these meetings, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasising Islamabad’s consistent stance for peace, reconstruction, and justice in Gaza.

The prime minister also met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the presence of Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

President Abbas expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued political and diplomatic support to Palestine, describing relations between the two nations as “brotherly and exemplary.”

PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the resilience of the people of Gaza, commending their courage in the face of hardship and expressing satisfaction over the ceasefire agreement reached through the Gaza Peace Accord.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Sharm El-Sheikh, the Prime Minister was received at the airport by Egyptian Minister Dr Ashraf Sobhy.
