Authorities issued a flash flood alert on Saturday as the Mangla Dam reached near its maximum capacity, leaving only a few inches of space before the reservoir overflows.
According to the district administration, the total capacity of the dam is 1,242 feet, while the current water level has surpassed 1,241 feet, prompting preparations to open the spillways to manage the rising inflow.
Officials have warned of high-level flooding in the Jhelum River, with potential overflow from Nala Ghan and Nala Banhan, both of which are swelling due to continuous rainfall.
The administration has issued a high alert and directed the evacuation of several low-lying villages as a precautionary measure.
Emergency and rescue teams have been placed on standby to respond to any situation arising from the expected flash flooding tonight.
