The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday issued a fresh weather advisory, warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms expected across the province from October 5 to 7.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, several districts in upper Punjab are likely to experience intense downpours, with rainfall also forecast over the upper catchment areas of major rivers.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert, stressing that district administrations had been mobilised under the instructions of the Punjab chief minister.
He cautioned that the rains could increase water flow in rivers and their adjoining tributaries, and ordered all deputy commissioners and field officers to stay present in their respective areas to monitor the situation.
Alerts have also been issued to the health, irrigation, communications, works, local government, and livestock departments to ensure readiness.
Urging citizens to adopt precautionary measures, the DG said: “In case of thunderstorms or heavy rains, please stay at safe locations, avoid unnecessary travel, and do not remain in open areas during lightning or stormy conditions.”
Residents have been advised to call the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of emergencies.
