Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday resumed hearing cases after being reinstated to judicial duties following a Supreme Court ruling.
Justice Jahangiri arrived at the court at 10:00 am and began proceedings as per the cause list, marking his formal return to the bench.
The development came after the Supreme Court (SC) declared null and void an interim order issued by an IHC division bench on September 16 that had restrained him from performing judicial work in a fake degree case.
A five-member constitutional bench of the SC, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, heard Justice Jahangiri’s appeal and unanimously annulled the IHC’s directive.
The court observed that since objections were raised over the maintainability of the petition filed in the IHC, the high court must first decide on those objections before proceeding with the quo warranto case.
In its written order, the Supreme Court reiterated that the IHC must address the maintainability issue before moving forward with substantive proceedings.
