Actress Julia Fox has come to the defense of pop star Taylor Swift, who has faced criticism regarding the performance of her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
In a recent interview, Fox who portrays the influencer wife of a football quarterback in her new film Him, discussed the tendency to blame the partners of athletes for their performance.
For highlighted the absurdity of such blame, referencing the backlash Swift received after the Chiefs lost a game. “If a guy loses a game, it’s a girl’s fault, it’s like his girlfriend’s fault. It’s just crazy”, Fox remarked.
She noted the irrational superstitions that lead to women being unfairly targeted, saying, “I remember Travis Kelce lost a game, and then people were saying that it was Taylor Swift’s fault. It was just like, ‘What? That’s crazy!’”.
She further criticised the societal tendency to blame women, questioning, “So your admitting that we are powerful”? Fox’s comments come as Kelce and Swift who began dating in the summer of 2023, announced their engagement last month.
In addition to her advocacy for Swift, Fox is promoting her new horror film Him, directed by Justin Tipping, which also stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers.
