PCB lodges complaint with ICC against Indian captain’s controversial remarks

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against India skipper Suryakumar Yadav over his controversial remarks following India’s Asia Cup group-stage victory over Pakistan on September 14.

After the match, Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the win to “the families of the victims of the Pahalgam attack”.

According to sources, the PCB in its letter accused the Indian captain of breaching the code of conduct following the September 14 match.

The ICC is said to have acknowledged Pakistan’s concerns and indicated the possibility of disciplinary action against Yadav.

The PCB’s letter said that through his remarks, Suryakumar Yadav politicised the game, damaging the sport’s reputation.

Demanding strict action, the Board maintained that all clauses of the ICC’s Code of Conduct were applicable in this respect.

The letter also claimed that Yadav deliberately referred to the Pahalgam incident and Operation Sindoor — two politically charged military events — during or after the match, which the PCB argued is in direct violation of the spirit of the game.

The PCB pointed out that the ICC previously considered slogans like “Free Gaza” as breaches of the Code of Conduct.

Therefore, failing to act against Suryakumar Yadav would set a dangerous precedent and risk turning the cricket field into a political battleground, it added.

The letter also emphasised that the Indian captain’s remarks were explicitly anti-Pakistan and called for the strictest disciplinary measures to be taken.
