The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged as the dominant force in the latest round of local government by-elections in interior Sindh, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results received by Aaj News on Wednesday.
Out of nine seats declared so far, PPP clinched six, while Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) secured two and an independent candidate won one seat.
In Hyderabad, results of six vacant seats were finalised.
PPP and TLP won two seats each, while one independent and one PTI-backed independent also secured victories.
PPP’s Ghulam Murtaza Shoro was elected chairman of UC-94 with 2,485 votes, while Khadim Hussain of PPP bagged UC-49 Ward-1 with 454 votes.
TLP candidates also made inroads, with Mahfooz Ahmed winning UC-50 Ward-2 with 120 votes and Muhammad Saleem taking UC-106 Ward-3 with 211 votes.
Independent candidate Qazi Khalil Ahmed triumphed in UC-106 vice chairman’s race with 504 votes, while PTI-backed Mubashir Jafri emerged victorious in UC-112 Ward-4, securing 359 votes.
In Umerkot, PPP further consolidated its position as Raza Hameed won the UC Gupno chairman seat with a commanding 4,110 votes, defeating the joint opposition’s Zohaib Khurram Arain, who managed 970 votes.
In Khairpur, the party swept both the Town Committee Ahmedpur Ward-1 and UC Gondaro Ward-12 seats.
Mumtaz Ali Sheikh secured 879 votes in Ahmedpur, while Muhammad Ayub Barro won the UC Gondaro chairman’s slot with 3,782 votes.
PPP also registered success in Thatta, where its candidate Maqsood Soomro captured the UC Jang Shahi vice chairman’s seat with 1,284 votes.
PPP also emerged victorious in the Karachi local government by-elections, clinching four out of five seats contested across three districts — Keamari, West and East.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PPP secured one chairman and three vice chairman seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) managed to win one councillor’s slot.Polling remained largely peaceful throughout the day, but tensions rose after voting ended and counting began. In Baldia Town, police resorted to baton charge to disperse workers, while in Sohrab Goth, rival party activists clashed.
In Lyari’s UC-36B, police detained several individuals during scuffles.
In Sohrab Goth UC-8, PPP’s Mir Shahroz Brohi was elected vice chairman with 1,670 votes.
In Baldia Town UC-8, PPP’s Faisal Musa bagged 3,132 votes to secure the vice chairman seat, while Stephen Masih of PPP won the UC-10 vice chairman slot in Manghopir Town with 895 votes.
JI registered its only victory in Orangi Town UC-7, Ward-4, where Bilal Nasir secured 791 votes to win the councillor’s seat.
The sole chairman slot was also claimed by PPP, with Shaheena Aamir securing 3,801 votes in Orangi Town UC-1. Shaheena contested the election on the seat left vacant after the death of her husband, Aamir Bhashani.
PPP leaders hailed the results as a reflection of public trust in their party’s service to the people.
Celebrations broke out across Karachi as jubilant PPP supporters danced to drumbeats, particularly outside the residence of victorious candidate Faisal Musa.
