The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday issued a weather alert, warning of intermittent rainfall across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in mountainous areas.
According to the PDMA advisory, residents of Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan have been cautioned about the possibility of glacial lakes bursting due to heavy downpours.
The authority has directed district administrations to closely monitor vulnerable locations, ensure timely warnings, and carry out evacuation drills where necessary.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement near streams and rivers, and not to drive vehicles through floodwaters.
Emergency supplies and rescue services have been placed on high alert, while safe evacuation points in potentially affected areas are being prepared.
The PDMA has also urged tourists to remain vigilant and follow precautionary measures during their travels.
