PM Shehbaz announces electricity bill waiver for flood victims

In a television address on Sunday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a major relief measure for the flood victims, which includes the exemption from the electricity bills for August.

“Household consumers will not have to pay the August (electricity) bill,” the prime minister added.

Shehbaz said that the recent rains and floods have caused massive destruction. He said the floods damaged livestock, homes, and sources of livelihood.

“Our mothers, sisters, and daughters are still under the open sky,” Shehbaz said.

He said that he armed forces, along with federal and provincial governments, are continuing rescue operations

The prime minister announced that the government has decided to waive electricity bills for the people affected by recent floods.

“The federal government will bear the cost from its own resources,” he added.

The prime minister also said that the paid August bills will be adjusted in the coming month, he added.

He further said payment of commercial consumers’ bills is being deferred, and necessary instructions have been issued to electricity distribution companies.
