Pakistani women mountaineers conquer 5,400m Bari La peak in GB

A team of Pakistani women mountaineers has etched their names in history by successfully summiting the 5,400-metre Bari La peak in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

The landmark expedition, organised by the Alpine Club of Pakistan to mark its Golden Jubilee, brought together women climbers from Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad.

Renowned mountaineer Sajid Ali Sadpara, who guided the climbers along with Ashraf Sadpara, Fida Shigri, and Sharif Sadpara, announced the achievement on social media.

He said leading this group of courageous women was a proud moment and a positive step towards boosting adventure tourism in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the team on their success and invited them to the Prime Minister’s House to honour their remarkable feat.

Vice President of the Alpine Club, Karrar Haidri, hailed the climb as a reflection of the women’s determination, resilience, and talent.

The four-day expedition set off from Skardu on September 7, with the team spending four nights at Deosai Top.

The first two days were dedicated to training and acclimatisation before the final summit push.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the participation of women in such demanding climbs is a powerful symbol of empowerment and a source of national pride.
