Floods wreak havoc in south Punjab, many villages inundated

The Chenab River was in high flood on Saturday following the release of water by India, turning the situation critical in south Punjab, where floods have wreaked havoc.

According to sources, the district administration has launched efforts to protect the Doaba Flood Bund and Sher Shah Flood Bund in south Punjab and rescue citizens in the flood-affected areas.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the Sutlej River was also experiencing a high-level flood, with a flow of 353,825 cusecs recorded at the Head Ganda Singh Wala.

The FFD reported that the water inflow and outflow at the Head Sulemanki stands at 132,916 cusecs, while at the Burewala Jamlera location, the water flow is recorded at 160,000 cusecs.

In addition, the water inflow and outflow at the Head Islam was recorded at 103,465 cusecs, while the water flow at the Head Siphon of Mailsi was recorded at 93,343 cusecs.

According to the FFD, the Ravi River was experiencing a high-level flood at the Head Balloki, where the water flow had increased to 157,000 cusecs.

However, at the Head Sidhnai, the water flow is decreasing, now recorded at 101,000 cusecs.

A track of the Muzaffargarh-Dera Ghazi Khan National Highway has been submerged.

Water has accumulated in the nearby villages near the Head Muhammad Wala. Many villages in Muzaffargarh, Jhang, and Khanewal have been submerged by the flood.

In Liaquat Pur, people were worried as they were not getting animal fodder, medicine, and tents at the flood relief camp set up in Noorwala for the flood victims of the Chenab River.

Meanwhile, the water inflow at the Guddu Barrage has been recorded at 360,976 cusecs, and at the Sukkur Barrage, the inflow was 329,648 cusecs. At the Kotri Barrage, the water inflow was recorded at 237,922 cusecs.
