Flooding forces Pakistan Railways to reroute major train services for safety

Pakistan Railways has adjusted the routes of several major train services due to severe flooding in Punjab, prioritising passenger safety and operational continuity.

Trains originally scheduled to travel from Faisalabad to Karachi will now be rerouted through Lahore and Sahiwal. The affected services include the Pakistan Express, Milat Express, Karakoram Express, and Hazara Express.

This precautionary measure comes in response to the flood threat posed by the Ravi River, aiming to prevent disruptions in railway services.

Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through official announcements from Pakistan Railways regarding updated schedules and routes.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has reported extremely high flood levels in the Ravi River at Head Sidhnai, measuring 168 cusecs upstream.

The Director General of PDMA Punjab announced that controlled breaches have been executed at Head Sidhnai to protect major urban centers and critical infrastructure.

Additionally, two breaches were made at Mai Saffron bund to mitigate potential damage.

The water level in the Chenab River is also rising, with recent measurements at Head Marala recorded at 384,000 cusecs.
