NDMA predicts heavy rainfall from August 29 to September 2 nationwide

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall nationwide from August 29 to September 2.

The anticipated severe rain poses a risk of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions.

The Meteorological Department forecasts rain with thunderstorms in Islamabad from Saturday to Tuesday.

Northern and Northeastern districts of Punjab, including Lahore and Sialkot, are expected to see rain on Sunday and Monday, while central and Southern Punjab are predicted to experience rainfall from August 29 to 31.

Severe rainfall is also anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. In light of the potential for landslides, the NDMA has instructed relevant agencies to stay alert, particularly in Malakand and Hazara Divisions.

In Karachi, rain is expected between August 30 and September 2, raising concerns about urban flooding.

Other districts in Sindh and Balochistan are also likely to receive rainfall.

The NDMA has called on all district administrations and rescue organisations to implement precautionary measures to prepare for my emergencies and has urged citizens to take safety precautions.

PDMA: Heavy downpours forecast across upper districts

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh alert as the ninth spell of monsoon rains grips the province, warning of heavy downpours in most districts from today, August 29, through September 2.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, torrential rains are expected in the upper catchment areas of major rivers, raising concerns of flooding.

Forecasts indicate intense showers in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum, while Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat and Sialkot are also likely to be hit.

Other districts on high alert include Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha and Mianwali.

In southern Punjab, heavy rains are predicted in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Rajanpur.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert.

He said district administrations have been instructed to step up preparedness on the orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as extremely high flood levels persist in the Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers.
