Mayor Karachi announces repair plan for roads, launches helpline for complaints

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has announced taking responsibility for repairing and maintaining 106 roads that fall into the jurisdiction of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

Speaking at a press conference at the KMC Building, the mayor said that complete details of these roads, including concerned officials, contractors, and costs, have been uploaded on the KMC website.

He added that WhatsApp numbers and a dedicated helpline (1339) have also been provided for citizens to lodge complaints regarding damaged roads.

“Every district has been assigned a separate contractor under an annual contract. Wherever a road is broken, the respective district’s contractor will carry out repair work,” Wahab said. He added that he, along with the deputy mayor, will personally monitor the projects.

The mayor said that work on the 106 roads will begin from Monday, with a deadline of 60 days to complete the repairs. “We will not compromise on quality. If citizens see any road in bad condition, they can hold us accountable,” he assured.

Wahab further said that contracts for the maintenance of roads and streetlights have also been finalised, while details of neighbourhood-level development schemes have been made available online for public transparency.
