Monsoon to intensify across Pakistan from August 22

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will enter the country’s upper regions from August 22, bringing heavy rainfall between August 23 and 27.

According to the PMD, rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan.

Rainfall is also forecast for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan from August 23 to 26, while Karachi and other areas of Sindh may see showers from August 23 to 25.

The Met Office has warned of urban flooding, inundation of low-lying areas, and possible landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Authorities have been advised to remain on alert and take precautionary measures.
