New intense monsoon spell likely to lash cities from today

The intensity of the monsoon rains is likely to increase in various parts of the country from today (Monday).

According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected today (Monday) across Sindh, including Karachi.

Light rain was reported in Sujawal and surrounding areas, while thundershowers were reported in Kallurkot, which inundated low-lying areas.

Various areas of Karachi, including Gurumander, M.A. Jinnah Road, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Surjani Town, received drizzle last night, which made the weather pleasant.

Rain also occurred in Taxila and Wah Cantt, after which power outages were reported in several places. Heavy rain in DI Khan caused flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the rain will continue till August 22.

Heavy rains are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. There are risks of cloudburst in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock.

A warning for heavy rain has been issued in Sindh with the risk of urban flooding in city areas.

Meanwhile, the Indus River is flowing in moderate floods at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa Barrages, while Guddu Barrage is experiencing low-level flood.
