Emergency 911 service launched nationwide amid floodcrisis

On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has activated the 911 emergency helpline across Pakistan to assist citizens during the ongoing flood crisis.

The ministry stated that the service will remain functional even in the areas where mobile towers are damaged or inactive, allowing affected individuals to seek urgent help.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary calls so that the system stays accessible for genuine emergencies.

The move comes in as torrential rains , cloudbursts and flash floods wreaks havoc across Khyber Pakhtun Khwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan. Over 250 people have died in the northern regions, with Buner alone reporting more than 150 fatalities.

Entire villages have been washed away, homes destroyed and livestock and vehicles carried of by raging waters, leaving many survivors stranded as infrastructure and communication lines remains disrupted.

Prime Minister Sharif has also directed the immediate dispatch of relief goods to Khyber Pakhtun Khwa via trucks and Pledge to expedite rescue and relief operations to support flood-affected communities.
