India’s capital New Delhi was inundated on Saturday morning due to heavy and continuous rain, turning major roads into lakes and disrupting traffic.
According to the airport tracking website, at least 182 flights departing from Delhi Airport were delayed due to the rain, while more than 30 incoming flights were also delayed.
The airport administration advised passengers to use alternative means such as the Delhi Metro and get the latest updates from their airlines for timely departures.
Airlines also issued emergency advisories. IndiGo warned that several roads in Delhi are closed or slow due to rain, passengers should allow extra time and check flight status before arriving at the airport.
SpiceJet said that all flight schedules may be affected due to bad weather.
The Met Office has issued a warning of “thunderstorm” in Delhi for today. The city’s maximum temperature is likely to be 33 degrees and the minimum is likely to be 25 degrees.
