After three weeks in distress, a wandering leopard in the adjacent areas of Hyderabad, India has been detained by the Forest Department.
The animal was trapped in an exclusively designed cage at Manchirevula Eco Trek Park, situated near Gandipet in Rangareddy district.
Local residents in Gandipet, Moinabad and Sheikhpet Mandal reported sight of leopard numerous times. It has caused chaos in the district.
To detain the leopard, Forest Department deployed eight trap cameras and four cages across the effected region. It was first spotted on July 21 at Grey hounds training campus, later it was seen near the Ibrahim Bagh Military area close to Golconda Fort.
The leopard was also seen near Chilkur, Narsingi and the Research Center Imarat (RCI) facility of DRDO earlier this month.
Following the capture, the leopard was relocated to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. It will go under medical examination before any decisions are made regarding its release into a suitable forest habitat.
This marks the second incident of the year in the same region. The incident occurred in April at the ICRISAT campus in Patancheru.
The success in detaining the animal has brought relief to local communities.
Forest officials persistently urged residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual animal sightings. The leopard’s presence has instilled fear among Hyderabad’s residents in Golconda region.
The CCTV footage captured it crossing the street near the military zone adjacent to Taramatri Baradari road.
Witnesses reported seeing the leopard moving towards the Musi river, especially in dense areas of the forest.
