Following the attack, a heavy police contingent arrived at the scene and launched a search operation in the surrounding area. Officials say efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible, and an investigation has been initiated.

The inspector general of Punjab Police took immediate notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bahawalpur. He also directed the District Police Officer (DPO) of Rahim Yar Khan to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators involved in the gunfire.

Condemning the assault as a cowardly act, the IG stated that the attackers exploited the darkness to carry out their strike. “Such actions cannot shake the morale of a force built on sacrifice,” he said, adding that the crackdown against criminal elements in the riverine areas (“kacha”) will continue with full force and determination.
