CJCSC General Sahir Shamshad meets Egyptian president, military chief in Cairo

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI (M), is currently on an official visit to Egypt for the third round of Defence and Security Talks, where he held high-level meetings with the country’s top civil, military, and religious leadership.

According to a statement by ISPR, General Sahir Shamshad called on His Excellency Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt; General Abdel Mageed Ahmed Abdel Mageed Saqr, Minister of Defence and Military Production and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces; Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority; and His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.

Discussions during the meetings focused on bilateral military cooperation, security, counter-terrorism, and the prevailing regional situation.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and expanding their military-to-military relationship, particularly in the areas of training, joint military exercises, and defence cooperation.

In his interaction with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, General Sahir Shamshad emphasised the importance of religious and inter-faith harmony in promoting tolerance, inclusivity, and addressing the underlying causes of terrorism.

“Egyptian dignitaries lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism,” says the statement.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the Ministry of Defence, the CJCSC was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
