Rain emergency declared in twin cities amid heavy downpour

Rain emergency has been declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi following substantial overnight rainfall.

Local authorities have alerted relevant agencies to prepare for expected emergencies with continuous monitoring of all rivers and canals, including Nala lai.

According to the reports of Managing Director of WASA stated that the water levels in Nala lai have reached 8feet at Katarian and 7feet in Gowalmandi.

The twin cities have recorded over 80mm is Shamsabad and 55mm in Katarian.

Also, heavy rains have caused rivers and canals to overflow in Azad Kashmir. Intermittent rainfall is also continued in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Kaghan Valley, Balakot and Batkhela. Light rain in various areas of Lahore also brought pleasant weather.

According to Met Office’s forecasts rain today in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber PakhtunKhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit- Baltistan.

The coastal areas of Sindh are expected to be partly cloudy with possibility of light rain.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid rivers and canals and to contact rescue agencies in case of emergency.
