In the latest development, due to heavy rains and stormy weather conditions during the fourth monsoon season across the country. More than 14 people died and 17 were injured in accidents.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the death toll raised due to rains since June 26 has reached 266, while the total number of injured is 628.
The highest number of deaths was reported in Punjab at 144, followed by 63 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 25 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, 8 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 2 in Kashmir and 8 in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, torrential rains continue in Gilgit-Baltistan. A cloudburst caused severe destruction in Skardu, where a search is underway for 15 missing tourists.
More bodies were recovered during the search operation, taking the death toll to 6. No trace of the missing people of Nankana Sahib has been found yet.
In Azad Kashmir, the roads of the rain-damaged areas could not be restored, thousands of passengers and tourists are stranded.
Gilgit-Baltistan’s air and land connection with the country has also been cut off, while the flood victims of Ganchha district are facing the worst problems.
In the southern district of Punjab, Rajanpur, after heavy rains in the mountain range of Koh-e-Sulaiman, rivers and canals have overflowed.
In the Indus River, there is moderate flooding at Kalabagh, Chashma and Jinnah Barrage, while there is low flooding at Tarbela, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur Barrage.
Low flooding has also been recorded at Head Marala and Head Qadirabad in the Chenab River. Crops are facing erosion and many acres of land in different villages have been submerged.
The NDMA has issued an alert in view of heavy rains in the upper areas of the country and Punjab today. Citizens have been directed to stay away from rivers and canals and hilly areas.
Meanwhile, the weather in Karachi is partly cloudy and according to the Met Office, light rain is likely this evening.
Landslides in Ghazi and Khanpur tehsils of Haripur have caused rivers to overflow, posing a serious threat to the local population.
Authorities have instructed residents of low-lying areas and their livestock to move to safer places in view of the possible flood situation.
