The body of retired colonel Qazi Ishaq, who was swept away in a storm drain along with his daughter during heavy rains in Islamabad has been found after hectic search efforts.
The body was found on Thursday in the Swan River. However, the search for his daughter is continuing for the third day.
The body was found after 1122 Rawalpindi teams discovered the door and bonnet of the missing vehicle under the Sawan Bridge.
Rescue officials said the search operation would continue without any break until the other victim is found.
The tragic incident happened in a private housing society in Islamabad where Ishaq Qazi was driving a car with his 25-year-old daughter.
Due to heavy rain, water accumulated on the road and his car got stuck in the deep water.
Colonel Qazi tried to restart the car and drive through water, but the strong water currents pushed the car into the rainwater drain.
Rescue 1122, Navy divers, and other rescue agencies used modern equipment, drone cameras and helicopters to locate the missing duo.
Excavation work was underway in and around the Sawan Bridge, while rescue teams were also checking the tunnel and other possible trapped areas.
The family of the retired colonel was anxiously waiting for a miracle. Authorities have assured that relief activities will continue until the recovery of the victims.
