IHC issues contempt notice to PM, cabinet over Aafia Siddiqui case

The Islamabad High Court on Monday issued a contempt notice to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other members of the federal cabinet over the government’s non-cooperation in the Aafia Siddiqui case.

The court expressed its strong displeasure over the government’s failure to submit a report despite court orders.

Hearing the case, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan remarked that he had scheduled Fauzia Siddiqui’s case for hearing today along with other important cases, even though his vacation was starting today.

The court said that the next hearing in the case will be held on the first working day after the end of the judicial vacation.

During the hearing of the Fauzia Siddiqui case, Justice Ejaz revealed that he had scheduled the matter along with several others for hearing, despite his official vacation beginning the same day.

He further emphasised that Fauzia Siddiqui is “Pakistan’s daughter.” The judge noted that the case is under appeal in the Supreme Court, where the government has challenged his earlier ruling.

Justice Ijaz Ishaq Khan warned the government that continued ignoring court orders will not be tolerated, and the federal cabinet will have to be held accountable for this behaviour.
