A fresh spell of rain turned the weather pleasant across various parts of Karachi on Saturday, but also triggered widespread power outages. The Met Office has warned that heavy rains may continue across Sindh till July 25.
Many areas of Karachi including North Karachi, New Karachi, Surjani Town, and Gulshan-e-Maymar experienced heavy downpours, while light to moderate rain was reported in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, University Road, Safoora, and adjoining localities. Despite the welcome relief from the heat, residents faced inconvenience due to prolonged electricity disruptions.
Along with the rain, power supply was suspended in different areas of the city, causing difficulties to the citizens. The Met Office has predicted that heavy rains are likely to continue in Karachi throughout the day today.
On the other hand, heavy rains also wreaked havoc in various districts of Sindh, Sukkur, Dadu, Larkana, Tando Allahyar and Gambat. Since the rains started late last night in Sukkur, low-lying areas were flooded, dozens of feeders tripped, due to which power went out in many areas. The continuous rain in Sukkur for six hours has severely affected the ready-made date crop.
In Tando Allahyar, intermittent rains with strong winds are also continuing, as a result of which low-lying areas have been flooded. The drainage system in the area has been affected.
